Clackamas Nonprofit Receives $20,000 Grant From Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

The Father’s Heart Street Ministry, a Clackamas nonprofit that serves the local homeless population, has received a $20,000 grant from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. as part of the corporation’s 12 Days of Giving campaign. The Father’s Heart, which opened more than 12 years ago, runs a day center where homeless people or those in transition can eat, shower and get clothing and meals. Teri Gant, the ministry’s founder, said the day center complements night centers, which typically open at about 7 p.m. and close early in the morning. “We close the gap in between,” Gant said. “We’re a safe place where people can come to stay safe and warm and dry.” Wal-Mart Stores Inc. awarded $1.5 million to 145 organizations across the country and Puerto Rico over the last 12 days based on community nominations on the corporation’s Facebook page.
